Rescuers in New Jersey save deer that fell into well

FRANKLIN, N.J. (WPVI) -- Crews in New Jersey managed to rescue a deer that fell into a well Wednesday afternoon.

At about 3 p.m., the Franklin Township Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a deer had fallen into a well that was no longer in use at a residence on Canal Road.

Upon arrival officers discovered the deer at the bottom of a well that was approximately three feet by three feet wide and six feet deep.

Animal Control Officers from the Franklin Township Animal Shelter and firefighters from Franklin Park, Griggstown, Little Rocky Hill and the Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention responded to the scene to conduct the rescue operation.

Utilizing ropes and snares, the firefighters and the animal control officers were able to free the deer from the well approximately 45 minutes after the original call.

The deer appeared to be unharmed and ran into a wooded area adjacent to the residence, police say.
