$10,000 reward in murder of truck driver in Yeadon

YEADON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Earlier this month, a truck driver was murdered during a robbery in Yeadon. His sister spoke to Action News and a $10,000 reward is being offered to find his killer.

"He was the most compassionate person," said Sharon Conroy.

Conroy spoke with us at a memorial garden for the families of victims of violence in Upper Chichester.

Her brother, 63-year-old Tom Childs, is memorialized as a big Eagles and Phillies fan, a fisherman and a truck driver.

Back on June 9th, Childs was gunned down in Yeadon, Delaware County during a robbery as he loaded up his delivery truck.

The incident happened in the 6200 block of Baltimore Avenue.

"He would stick up for anybody that he met on the street who he thought an injustice was happening to," said Conroy.

The alleged killer got away with $28 and Childs' company cellphone, both were later dumped at a nearby cemetery.

A witness was able to provide a description of the suspect but he remains at large.

He is described as a light skinned black man in his early 20's with a light mustache. He stands 5'4" to 5'6" tall and weighs about 180 lbs. He was wearing a gray hoodie at the time.

"I don't want this guy to get away with what he did. I don't want this guy out on the street hurting somebody else," said Conroy.

What makes this all the more painful is that Conroy lost her only son to violence.

Sean Patrick Conroy is also memorialized with his own space in the garden.

Back in 2008 the 36-year-old, who was a Starbucks manager at the Marriott in Center City, was randomly attacked and killed by five Simon Gratz High School students.

With two painful losses - both to violence, how does Conroy keep it together.

"You don't know what to do, but you feel like you gotta do something and this is my way of honoring my brother and I hope they catch this killer," she said.

Through the Citizens Crime Commission, the family is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
