CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- The Delaware County SPCA is investigating a grisly discovery in Chester: the decomposed remains of a dog, found in a suitcase.

The suitcase was discovered near the intersection of West 2nd and Pusey streets.

The dog's leg was sticking out of the side of the suitcase.

The SPCA said it appears the animal was alive when it was placed in the case because the inside liner bears scratch and bite marks.

The group's veterinarian estimates the young adult dog died weeks or months ago.

The suitcase is described as navy blue with "Cayman Islands" printed on the inside.

Anyone with information on who is responsible is asked to contact Human Society Police Officer Ron Riggle at 610-566-1370 x214 or RRiggle@delcospca.org.
