Woman critical after DUI crash on Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man is charged with DUI after a crash on Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia that left a woman in critical condition.

Authorities tell Action News a man driving a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling south on Columbus Boulevard around 2:15 a.m. Sunday at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle.

The man struck a Lexus that was in the northbound lanes.

The impact of the crash spun the Lexus around into the southbound lanes of the roadway.

The Malibu then careened through the fence in front of the Coast Guard station.

A female passenger in the Malibu was critically injured and taken to Jefferson University Hospital.

Police say the male driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital.

He faces DUI charges.

The female driver of the Leuxs was taken to Hahnemann for minor injuries.
