CENTER CITY (WPVI) -- Music superstar Stevie Wonder performed a free pop-up concert in Center City Monday afternoon.

Chopper 6 was over Dilworth Park near City Hall as hundreds of fans braved the heat and humidity to hear some of Wonder's many hits.

The free pop-concert was actually part of a big promotional event.

The legendary Stevie Wonder wowed Philadelphia this afternoon taking a stage right on the south side of Dilworth Park.

Fans learned about the free event via social media throughout the day.

"I saw it through ABC which I follow on Facebook. I have an hour to kill so I was like I would love to see him," said Mykia Reed from West Philadelphia.

"My daughter sent me a text message that said pop up concert- Stevie Wonder and I said - oh we're there," said Terry Miller from Mount Airy.

The singer used the small stage to announce he will be returning to Philadelphia and the Wells Fargo Center for a concert on October 7th.

Not even the high heat could keep the huge crowds away, although the heat was an issue for some, including one woman who was taken away by paramedics.

Others said they didn't mind the scorching temperatures - they didn't want to miss this.

"I think it's great. It's remarkable that Stevie Wonder is here in Philadlephia and it's free - and it's a surprise," said Lonnie Shields from Media, Pennsylvania.

Tickets go on sale for Stevie Wonder's concert on August 21st at 10 am.
