A young local model is breaking down barriers and stereotypes as the newest model for Gap.

She's 8-year-old Kayla Kosmalski, from Bear, Delaware.

A student at Cedar Lane Elementary, she was featured in the Gap Kids fashion show in Miami.

The little girl, who has Down syndrome, thanks her family for always encouraging her.

"They are really fantastic, my family," she said. "A long time ago they said to me, 'Kayla, you are the best Kayla in the whole wide world.'"

It's been a busy year for Kayla.

She got a law passed under her name, allowing people with disabilities to establish accounts to save for college, and made the dance team for the Delaware 87ers.
