EAST WINDSOR TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A fast-moving apartment fire left 2 people injured in East Windsor Township, Mercer County.
It broke out before 2:30 a.m. Monday at the Windsor Castle Apartments in the unit block of Devonshire Drive.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames coming from one of the buildings in the complex.
The blaze went to 3 alarms before crews were able to place it under control at 5:00 a.m.
A witness reported seeing one resident jumping from a second floor apartment to escape the flames.
Medics took that man to an area hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition.
Fire officials tell Action News a firefighter was also taken to the hospital to be treated for an ankle injury.
Earlier reports indicated a third person was hurt. That turns out not to be the case.
Officials say a total of 16 units were affected by the fire. Eight were damaged and eight were completely destroyed.
The American Red Cross has been asked to provide assistance to 20 residents who have been displaced.
An investigation is underway to determine what sparked the fire.
Fire officials say it does not appear the fire was intentionally set.
