WOODBURY, N.J. (WPVI) -- Firefighters battled a multi-alarm blaze that left seven people injured in Woodbury, N.J.

The fire was reported at 3:30 a.m. Monday in the 700 block of Mehorter Boulevard.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire being fanned by high winds.

Firefighters battled a multi-alarm blaze that left seven people injured in Woodbury, N.J.

Witness Stephanie Dromgoole tells Action News it started with what she thinks is an explosion.

"I heard a loud boom and I looked out the window and I could see all the fire and blazes," Dromgoole said.

Three homes, several vehicles and brush surrounding the homes caught fire before the blaze was put under control.

"Probably at least 15 to 20 feet above the house, it was huge," Dromgoole said.

Firefighters had to contend with live power lines on the ground.

Ian Picking was one of the people living inside.

"I just grabbed a blanket and came running outside," Picking said.

He was treated at the hospital and released.

Seven people in total were taken for treatment. All were expected to be OK.

Picking says one of his roommates had to jump from the second floor window.

"We dragged the guy across the street and some stuff was falling down," Picking said.

He came back Monday afternoon to find everything he owned destroyed.

But during this Thanksgiving holiday, he's grateful it looks like everyone will survive.

"We're all being protected somehow," Picking said.

Fire investigators are working to determine what sparked the blaze.
