A Florida pizza shop owner who was shot and killed at a mall was a well-known former restaurant owner and chef in New Jersey.

Leonardo Coppola owned a restaurant in the Melbourne Square Mall food court.

Initial reports say he was killed while trying to protect Idanerys Garcia Rodriguez from her husband when he opened fire into the crowded mall on Saturday.

Jose Garcia Rodriguez shot and killed himself afterward.

His wife survived and is hospitalized in good condition.

Coppola once owned several restaurants in Mercer County.

The 36-year-old had just moved to Florida in September.
