Supporters, music fans rally for Clinton on Independence Mall
INDEPENDENCE MALL (WPVI) -- Singer Jon Bon Jovi opened Hillary Clinton's final rally on Independence Mall in Philadelphia on the eve of Election Day.
The Mall itself was literally packed by a throng of tens of thousands, many who showed up hours before the event.
Singer Bruce Springsteen was also on hand, urging those in attendance the only choice for president is Hillary Clinton.
He would be followed by Hillary's family, including husband Bill and daughter Chelsea, both making stump speeches on her behalf in the final hours of the campaign. They would also be followed by First Lady Michelle Obama and then the president himself.
"I am asking you to work as hard as you can this one last day to elect, my fellow Americans, this fighter, this stateswoman, this mother, this grandmother, this Patriot, our next President of the United States of America, Hillary Clinton," said President Barack Obama.
Then it was Hillary's turn to make her final case in the very crucial swing state and make history.
"And maybe, most importantly, you voted in great numbers to demonstrate conclusively, once and for all, that love trumps hate," said Hillary Clinton. "Let's get out and vote tomorrow Philadelphia. Let's make history together. Thank you and God bless you."
Long lines began forming early Monday morning.
Donna Smits arrived at 9:30 p.m.
"It's a big day. This is the last campaign stop except for North Carolina tonight. Wanna be part of history," said Smits of Smyrna, Delaware.
Brian Soto came all the way from San Francisco for the event.
"I'm here because it's a historic event. You have Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, so you have potentially three presidents, and what I think is an important night for the State of Pennsylvania because it's a swing state," said Soto.
An important swing state where the latest Real Clear Politics average of polls show Clinton leading by 2.8 points, and the reason why she and her opponent have been spending so much time in Pennsylvania.
Jay Carter drove to Philadelphia from Pittsburgh for the event.
"This is our future, this is my future and this is a lady that truly represents what America stands for," said Carter.
Some people were honest, they came to enjoy the musical acts.
"Bruce Springsteen to tell you the truth," said Robert Jordan of Northeast Philadelphia.
But the majority of the thousands who lined up, starting at 4th and Chestnut, say they came to see Hillary.
"I'm confident Hillary is going to win," said Marla Rubinstein of Atlantic City.
