Police search for armed suspect in Ogontz home invasion

OGONTZ (WPVI) -- Police are searching for an armed suspect wanted in connection with a home invasion in the city's Ogontz section.

The incident happened on January 7.

According to police, the suspect knocked on the front door of a residence on the 6000 block of East Wister Street at 3 p.m.

When the homeowner opened the door, the suspect pointed a handgun at him and demanded money and belongings.

After the suspect made his way into the home, the victim began to fight to take away his gun.

The homeowner along with several witnesses inside the home were able to fight off the suspect and wrestle the loaded gun away.

Realizing he was unarmed, the suspect fled through a rear door and jumped off the rear deck to escape.

A short time later, he was seen on surveillance entering a nearby convenience store.

He was out of breath and bleeding from the forehead.

When the store employee went to call police, the suspect fled again in an unknown direction.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 6'3" tall with a thin build, dark complexion and light facial stubble. He was wearing a black puffy jacket, tan pants, grey sneakers, white knit ski cap, white mask covering his face from his nose down and armed with a handgun.
