N.J. zoo warden trying to set karaoke world record

JACKSON, N.J. (WPVI) -- In Jackson, New Jersey there's quite an interesting marathon underway.

A man has been singing karaoke non-stop since Tuesday in hopes of breaking a world record.

His nickname is "Wild Mike", for reasons that have nothing to do with karaoke.

In fact you could say his real job is a "great adventure".

In a tent outside McGinn's Pub in Jackson, 25-year-old Mike Miller has been singing his heart out non-stop for several days. Miller is trying to set a Guinness World Record for the longest karaoke marathon.

He started on Tuesday and should finish up sometime Saturday afternoon.

Mike tells us, "I'm gonna be trying my hardest, and failure is not an option for me. I'm set and determined to do this."

Miller is using his effort as a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior project, which helps disabled veterans.

Pub owner Maria McGinn says, "It's so nice to give something back to so many men and women who have sacrificed so much for us."

By day Miller is a warden at Six Flags Great Adventure Safari, where he feeds and cares for all kinds of animals - even singing to them on his rounds.

To set his record Mike sings karaoke around the clock, reading lyrics projected on a monitor. But with no sleep he's exhausted. He gets a 20 minute break every four hours.

Mike's father, Dick Miller, says, "This is the best he's been today. I was here at 4 o'clock this morning and it was 21 degrees."

Kayla Hickey of Jackson says, "I'm here to show support of course and to be a witness. He needs people to official witness the whole time he's here."

And Mike says, "My goal is 104 hours because it's easy to break a record just by a few seconds, but I just want to put a little more cushion between me and the next person who tries to break it."

Miller attempted and failed to set the record in 2008. This time he's hoping to sing his way into the record books, and also raise $5,000 for Wounded Warriors.
