School district allows students to pose with guns for senior photos

BROKEN BOW, Neb. (WPVI) -- A school district in central Nebraska will allow students to pose with their guns in their senior photos as long as it's done tastefully.

The Broken Bow Public School Board voted unanimously Monday night to allow students to use guns in the photos as long as they are not pointing the gun at the camera or pulling out the weapon, the Omaha World-Herald reports.

Many people in the town of 3,500 have grown up with guns, learning to hunt, skeet and trap at an early age. The town's Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt draws hunters and celebrities from all over the country.

A district leader in Broken Bow found half of the state's districts already allowed students to pose with guns for their senior photos. The Broken Bow district had not previously allowed guns in photos due to the number of school violence incidents across the country.

Broken Bow High School graduates between 50 to 60 students a year. Several of them are expected to pose with guns in their yearbook photo this year.
