JAMISON, Pa. (WPVI) -- A surprise homecoming party for a local Marine was almost ruined. But the Warwick Fire Department came to the rescue... twice!
The Driver family is singing their praises.
Family and friends were preparing a feast for Daniel Driver's arrival when fire broke out in the oven Saturday morning.
The fire department came out to douse the flames, and when they found out about the party, they sprung into action.
Warwick Fire President Mitch Stavitz explains, "We pooled our resources, pooled our money, made a couple of pans of ziti, a few other things and went down and delivered it to the family."
Joanne Driver, Daniel's mom, was touched by the firefighters' actions. She explains, "I see five or six of the firefighters with trays of food. I just was overcome by their generosity and the outpouring of love, and it was a great day after all. I just can't thank them enough."
And Daniel expressed his gratitude, telling us, "I just want to say thank you to the fire department for doing that. It was really nice of you guys. It was awesome."
Driver just returned home from boot camp in Paris Island. He says he had no idea his family was planning a party.
