A new study finds that there is no connection between the rising military suicide rate and deployment.

The rate of suicides by people in the military has doubled since 2005, so there have been a lot of studies looking into the problem.

This one covers 2001 to 2007 - and so far, it is the largest report.

It found only a slightly higher rate for suicide in troops who were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, compared to troops who did not go to that area or who remained in the United States.

But the report does show a higher suicide rate - nearly double - for troops who left the military before completing a four-year enlistment.

The report also shows suicide was more prevalent among the Army and Marines, than Navy and Air Force.

However this is not the last word - many want more studies on the problem. They also want to look at the impact of combat.
