LANCASTER, Calif. -- His name is Moby. He's a dog, a war hero and a movie star.
The four-legged furry fighter made his debut on the big screen Friday in the film "Max," which is based on Moby's 18-month tour of combat duty as a Marine dog in Afghanistan. Fans were excited to meet the K9 at a theater in Lancaster Friday.
"He served his country and I'm glad he's here safe," Lancaster resident Kim Garcia said.
"We are all fortunate to be able to meet him and pet him and see what he's really like. You can see he's gone through a lot," Palmdale resident Danny Bardales said.
During his tour of duty, Moby was wounded. He was shot above his right eye. The bullet exited the back of his head.
"He didn't even drop, didn't even go down," said Monty Hutson with For Veterans Safe Foundation.
Despite his heroic deeds, Moby is like many other veterans. He suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. Common hand claps sound like explosions to the dog.
"He's shaking. He'll start doing that and he'll run to me for comfort to know he's safe," Hutson said.
Hutson says he hopes fans will see the movie and have a better appreciation for our veterans and a better understanding of what PTSD is all about for those who serve our country on two legs or four.
