MT. AIRY (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating after raw meat with a Muslim newspaper and imagery were found on a porch in the Mt. Airy neighborhood.
Investigators say the discovery was made by a 25-year-old Tyree Price, who lives at the home, around 7 a.m. Tuesday in the unit block of East Montana Street.
The meat was wrapped in that newspaper, along with a flyer with a crescent and star, and an image of a woman with a head covering.
Price is a practicing Muslim who occasionally prays outside. He said he was scared by the discovery and called police.
"He prayed outside yesterday and today this is on our step," said his mother, Erica Price.
Neighbor Elton Edwards fears the material was meant to offend and insult.
"The residents over there are Muslim, I am a black Hebrew, Jewish. We don't need this nonsense. It's very alarming to me. I want the best for my family, I want peace for my family and for my neighborhood, and for this to be taking place like it is, it's very sad," he said.
Tyree Price spent much of the day being interviewed by police. Detectives called in the department's Homeland Security unit to assist.
Late in the day Tuesday, police signaled they don't believe this is a hate crime, and say it may be more of a domestic issue.
Still, the investigation continues.
