HAMMONTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- Police say a horse was struck and killed on the Atlantic City Expressway on Monday morning, while a second horse was captured.
It happened in the westbound lanes of the highway near Exit 28 in Hammonton around 3 a.m.
One horse was struck by a vehicle in the area of the right shoulder. That horse died.
The second horse was corralled by state police and was captured unharmed.
The owner of the horses was located and notified, police say.
Exactly how the horses got onto the highway remains under investigation.
There was no word on if the owner would face any charges.
