NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- Authorities say a man has died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Newark, Delaware.

It happened around 8:34 p.m. Wednesday along South Old Baltimore Pike near Hanna Drive.

Police said 49-year-old David B. Musick of Newark was attempting to cross the westbound lane of Old Baltimore Pike.

Musick was traveling southbound in a marked and lighted crosswalk when he was struck by a 1996 Nissan Maxima, operated by Kyla M. Monroe, 21, of Newark, police said.

Upon striking the victim, the vehicle continued in a northbound direction, police said, before striking a utility pole. Monroe remained at the scene.

The victim was treated by medics for a head injury at the scene and then transported to Christiana Hospital where he later died.

Monroe was properly retrained and uninjured, police said.

She was ticketed for inattentive driving and failure to have a license in possession.

The incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
