Teen arrested, brother sought in shooting of 11-year-old

NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a shooting in North Philadelphia that left an 11-year-old critically injured.

According to investigators, the teenage suspect will likely be charged as an adult.

The search continues for the suspect's 25-year-old brother, Marcelus Temple, who is also wanted in connection with the shooting.

Authorities say 11-year-old Kashia Crawford, an innocent bystander, was shot while playing outside in North Philadelphia.

It was just before 4:00 Sunday when gunfire erupted at the intersection of Gratz and Oxford streets.

According to police, the teenage suspect had been beaten up by four guys earlier in the day. He and his brother allegedly came back for revenge, wildly opening fire on the block.

Kashia was playing basketball with about a half-dozen friends when bullets started flying.

"We know that at least 15 shots were fired from a large caliber semi-automatic gun," said Chief Inspector Scott Small, Philadelphia Police.

One of the bullets hit the 11-year-old boy in his right hip. Police rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Kashia was later transferred to St. Christopher's Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities say the boy remains hospitalized and faces more surgery.

Marcelus Temple is described as 5'8", 195 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. His last known address is unknown but is known to frequent the area of 1900 Susquehanna Avenue and 1500 Gratz Street.

Temple is considered armed and dangerous.
