A mother and her two young daughters were injured after being struck by a vehicle in Lakewood, New Jersey.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (WPVI) -- A mother and her two young daughters were injured after they were struck by a vehicle in Lakewood, New Jersey.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. Monday in the area of River Avenue and Edgewood Court.

All three were rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by helicopter.

Chopper 6 was over the scene and showed a stroller knocked over on the street.

Police say the two girls, a one-year-old and a four-year-old, are in critical condition with head injuries. Their 27-year-old mother is in stable condition with facial lacerations.

The driver, a 50-year-old Toms River man, did stop nearby. Police say there is no indication the driver was under the influence or speeding.

The accident remains under investigation.
