A police cruiser slammed into a house in Winslow Township earlier Monday afternoon.

WINSLOW TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A Winslow Township police officer was injured when the officer's cruiser struck a pole and then hit a house Monday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 1:00 p.m. in the 500 block of Terrace Avenue.

According to authorities, at 12:47 Winslow Police were dispatched to the area of Berlin-Cross Keys Road and Chews Landing Road in the Sicklerville section of the township for the report of a crash with injuries.

While en route to the scene, a police cruiser with emergency sirens activated tried passing a pickup truck traveling in the same direction, but making a left onto Terrace Avenue.

The officer ended up striking a utility pole.

Jim Bill of Winslow Township says he heard what sounded like a car crash outside his living room window.

He quickly peeked out to see a local police squad car careening toward his house.

The police vehicle slid sideways on Bill's wet lawn, sideswiping the front of his home.

Bill says after bouncing off a utility pole on the passenger side, and then skidding into the house on the driver side, that officer was stuck inside his vehicle.

Jim says, "He was trapped in there for probably just about an hour before they cut him out. And he went to the hospital with, they say he definitely had a concussion."

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Winslow Township Police.
