Police: Inmate attacks guard, nurse at hospital

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia inmate already charged in three murders is now accused of attacking a correctional officer and a nurse while attempting to escape Einstein Medical Center.

Authorities say 20-year-old Justin Mackie was at the hospital Sunday for a medical procedure when he somehow removed his handcuffs.

Mackie then allegedly attacked the officer and a nurse before hospital security restrained him.

The officer sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized.
