EAST FALLS (WPVI) -- Police believe a large rock was thrown from atop of Lemon Hill, striking a woman's vehicle as she drove along Kelly Drive.
"I screamed, I couldn't see in front of me," said the driver. She asked Action News not to show her face.
The 23-year-old motorist says it was just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday that she was driving home westbound on Kelly Drive, just passing Boathouse Row.
That's when suddenly she heard a large explosion and the view in front of her was blurred.
"I couldn't even see in front of me, it just like glass everywhere - like glass on the windshield," she said.
With her heart racing and still unsure what just happened, the woman's immediate concern was to avoid crashing into someone.
"Started blowing my horn, that's because I thought people were in front of me and I couldn't pull over. It was hard," she said.
Once she pulled over and got a hold of her senses, she realized there was glass shrapnel all over her and the interior of her car.
"I got glass all over my chest and on my arms and everything, it's really bad. It could have knocked me out actually, if it went through. It was actually bigger, it broke off into pieces on the road," she said.
Police believe someone threw the rock from Lemon Hill. A piece of which was still sitting on the hood of the woman's vehicle.
She says she took Kelly Drive to avoid rush hour traffic on the Schuylkill Expressway.
Although she was not seriously injured, the woman says she can't believe someone would throw a rock at a passing car.
"That's not cool. It might seem funny, but it's not, it's not at all. Because it really could have caused really major damage," she said.
Police say they have no suspects but the incident is under investigation.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department's 9th Police District.
