NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) -- A woman has died after being hit by a car while trying to cross Route 13 in New Castle Saturday night.
Police say she was hit at 9:30 p.m. while trying to cross the highway at the intersection of Llangollen Boulevard.
The victim was crossing the road in or near a crosswalk, but according to police, she was not following the crosswalk signals.
The striking vehicle had a solid green light, and was behind another vehicle that had just swerved around the pedestrian.
After the vehicle struck the victim, the driver of the car did stop at the scene.
Officers say drugs and alcohol weren't a factor for the driver.
There's no word yet on whether the pedestrian was under the influence.
The victim's name is being withheld pending identification and notification of his next of kin.
