Storm brings down trees, leaves residents without power in Bucks County
CROYDON, Pa. (WPVI) -- Severe weather brought down at least six trees and left some residents without power in Bucks County on Sunday night.
Some viewers sent in video of the storm as it quickly rolled in just before 9 p.m. Sunday.
Residents said the rain came down so fast they couldn't see much outside of their windows. But in the aftermath, a lot of damage could be seen: street lights were out, a roof was ripped off on Newportville Road and strong winds brought down at least six trees in the Croydon area.
Action News was in Croydon where a large oak tree fell on top of a home on the 200 block of Belmont Avenue.
"I went around to the side, and you could see the tree leaning and embedded inside of the house," said Charlotte Michaels.
Michaels alerted her neighbor that a tree had fallen onto her home.
"I said 'The tree landed on your house. You've got to come out and see it' and she said 'Is that what that noise was?" and we went upstairs and she flicked on the light and you could hear the water coming through the ceiling," said Michaels.
The home was condemned by the fire marshal, as have two other homes in the area.
A tree also fell on the home of Chris McMullin on the 200 block of Walnut Street in Croydon.
McMullin said he probably he won't be able to live in his home again until 6 months from now. He said he was out to dinner when the tree collapsed on his house.
McMullin said he spent the night at a hotel, thanks to assistance from the Red Cross.
Bristol Township officials said the damage in Croydon spanned a mile, north and south of Route 13, in the area of Route 13 and Newportville Road.
Public Works and PennDOT crews have cleared trees on Newportville Road and other roads in the township.
At the storm's peak, there were 900 PECO customers without power in Croydon. As of 10 a.m. Monday there were 117 PECO customers without power.
The Red Cross has offered assistance to the affected families.
