2 emaciated dogs found in Upper Darby; $6,200 reward offered

UPPER DARBY, Pa. -- A $6,200 reward is being offered for information on who was responsible for leaving two emaciated dogs in Upper Darby, Pa.

Justice Rescue posted Facebook pictures of the dogs found Monday in Penn Pines Park in Upper Darby. They are offering a $1,200 reward.

On Wednesday night, the Humane Society of the United States offered a $5,000 reward.

"The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for abusing defenseless animals like these two dogs in Upper Darby. We hope our reward will help find the perpetrator of this horrible crime," the Humane Society posted.

Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says a passer-by called 911 after seeing the dogs abandoned in a parking lot with some dog food tossed on the ground nearby.

Chitwood says the dogs were in "real bad shape" and that one couldn't even stand. That dog also had fresh puncture wounds in its neck.

Russell Harper, Justice Rescue's chief humane officer, says it's clear the dogs were used for fighting, and had also been beaten.

Harper says, "If you can treat an animal that way, you can treat a human that way."
