US mailboxes locked for Broad St. Run: Rick Williams reports during Action News at noon on May 3, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Broad Street Run kicks off Sunday morning, and a new security measure will be in place.

Starting Friday, the U.S. Postal Service will lock dozens of blue mail collection boxes near the ten-mile race, and those boxes will not reopen until Monday.

Large races like this have been subjected to extra security ever since the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

One of two bombs was placed in a trash can near the finish line, killing three people and injuring hundreds.
