NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- More than 100 young adults partnered with Habitat for Humanity's Philadelphia chapter to help eight senior citizens in need.

Military veteran Harvey Routhenstein was one of the recipients of the volunteers' hard work.

On Sunday, Routhenstein's home got a much deserved makeover thanks to the Jewish Federation and Habitat for Humanity - in time of the high holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Routhenstein said the team was so good he didn't even have to get up out of his chair while they worked.

He said his home's roof was damaged a few years ago in a storm, but the volunteers fixed that by Sunday afternoon.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia said Routhenstein also fell victim to contractor fraud and that work is being fixed, too.

"A lot of contractors who are not reputable individuals are looking to scam and prey older adults," Brian Gralnick of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia said.

Rothenstein's home was just one of many getting help. Volunteers were sent to homes all throughout the city.
