NORTH PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Police are looking for two men who exchanged gunfire with officers in North Philadelphia Saturday.

A call for help came over police radio Saturday night. Two 22nd District officers faced gunfire after reporting to a call of a stolen cell phone.

The caller said the alleged thief offered to sell back the phone.

Officials said when the officers arrived at 13th and York streets, two men approached them and at least one of them was armed.

According to the police report, moments before the officers heard gunfire, one of the officers saw a 'red laser dot' on his shirt.

The officer reported it was "indicative of a firearm with an attached laser being pointed at him."

Authorities said one of the officers hit the ground and fired six rounds in the direction of the gunmen, who fled west on York Street.

Investigators recovered a magazine clip for a handgun in a nearby driveway.

There was no evidence at the scene that the assailants were hit.

The police officers were not injured.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 215-686-TIPS.
