DEPTFORD TWP., N.J. (WPVI) -- A suspect was hospitalized after a police-involved shooting on Thursday afternoon in Deptford Township, New Jersey.

Chopper 6 was over the scene at the Fairfield Inn on the 1100 block of Hurffville Road.

A witness said a man jumped out of the hotel window and ran onto Route 42. At some point after, about four gunshots were reportedly heard.

"I looked out the window and there were cops on [Route 42], like you could tell they were trying to stop somebody. I saw an ambulance on [Route 42], there were two of them. I guess they were trying to help him," the witness said.

Authorities tell Action News the suspect was shot by police around 2 p.m.

The man was hospitalized but he's expected to survive.

Investigators remained on the scene for several hours.

"I could see out my window that there were state troopers, everybody in the parking lot. I didn't know what was going on but a lot of police activity," said Florence Riley of Deptford Township.

Investigators are working to determine if the suspect was armed at the time of the incident.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office is investigating.
