Arrest in Blue Route road rage incident
WEST CONSHOHOCKEN TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Pennsylvania State Police have arrested the man they believe fired a semi-automatic weapon from a moving car during a road rage incident on the Blue Route (I-476) last week.
50-year-old Anthony Richardson was taken into custody at his home on Pennington Road in Philadelphia Wednesday morning.
Action News was in Philadelphia's Wynnefield Heights section as Richardson was led into the Pennsylvania State Police barracks on Belmont Avenue a short time later.
That's where police say he was positively identified by the victim in last Thursday's road rage incident.
Investigators say tip calls led them to Richardson.
One caller told police Richardson resembled a sketch of the suspect released after the shooting. Others said Richardson drove a car that matched the description of the Lincoln Town Car involved in the incident.
Investigators say Richardson has a history of road rage.
"He does have prior road rage habits, and he displayed a firearm," said Tpr. Brian Maturo of the Pennsylvania State Police.
Richardson's arrest came less than a week after the incident on I-476 North near the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) in West Conshohocken Township.
Police say it was around 3 p.m. on May 5th when a man driving a Lincoln Town Car fired one shot, striking a blue Mitsubishi Lancer.
"The suspect overtook the victim on the left berm, in front of the victim. He gets into the left lane towards the center lane. They drive side-by-side, and at that time the suspect fired one shot into the vehicle," said Maturo.
Police say the center console of the Mitsubishi stopped the bullet from hitting the driver of that car. No one was hurt.
There has been no word what may have led to incident.
Richardson did have a permit for that gun, police say.
