Berks County remains identified as missing Philly teens

CUMRU TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Authorities have identified remains that were exhumed in Berks County as those of two Philadelphia teens reported missing in the 1960s.

The victims have been identified as 14-year-old Sandra Stiver and 17-year-old Martha Stiver.

The teens, who were sisters-in-law, were reported missing from Philadelphia in summer of 1968.

While police believe the victims were murdered around the same time, their bodies were found separately several months later.

Their identities remained a mystery and their bodies were buried decades ago in Potter's Field in Cumru Township.

Back in October 2013, they were exhumed in order for DNA testing to be conducted.

DNA results, officials announced Friday, confirmed the remains to be that of the missing teens.

Authorities say the Berks County Coroner's Office will now return the remains to family members.
