Selena wax figure unveiled at Madame Tussauds Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES -- The family of singing sensation Selena Quintanilla unveiled the wax figure of the late pop icon in Hollywood on Tuesday.
The Quintanilla family revealed the statue at Madame Tussauds Hollywood, where crowds of fans lined up and cheered in support of the life-like figure.
The museum decided to immortalize the Grammy award-winner and cultural icon after an outpouring of fan appreciation. Tuesday marked the 21st anniversary of the late Tejano superstar's fifth and final studio album, "Dreaming of You."
The museum said its team of sculptors and artists traveled to The Selena Museum in Corpus Christi, Texas, and worked with Selena's family to really capture the singer's iconic pose, expression, signature hairstyle, makeup and wardrobe.
The figure was valued at about $350,000, dressed in a recreated stage look from Selena's concert held at the Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi on Feb. 3, 1993.
Her brother, A.B. Quintanilla, explained there was a problem with Selena's outfit before that concert, but she took some steps to make it look like she planned the design.
"She didn't buy enough stones and, man, she was super upset because she couldn't finish the bra, she couldn't finish her bustier...so, she just generally placed them in a certain way and made it look like it was supposed to be like that...," he said.
The pose also celebrates her performance recorded for the album "Selena Live!" - which won the Grammy award for best Mexican-American album in 1994.
