Dead shark washes ashore on beach in Belmar, New Jersey

BELMAR, N.J. (WPVI) -- A dead shark washed up on a beach along the Jersey Shore Wednesday afternoon.

The small predator appeared on the sand on the Eighth Avenue Beach at about 4 p.m, prompting numerous tweets with photos and video.

Police confirmed that the shark was dead, and that it was removed by the town's Department of Public Works.

It's still not clear what type of shark it was, or what killed it.
