HOCKESSIN, Del. (WPVI) -- New Castle County police have charged a teenager in connection with an assault of a 13-year-old girl in Hockessin, Delaware.

Meara Bey has seven stitches above her eye after being struck by a cinder block.

She was skateboarding in her neighborhood when she says a group of children surrounded her.

Meara says the whole thing started as a fight over presidential politics.

"I just really wanted to talk to them like, 'Why are you guys doing this? This is so unnecessary. There are better ways. If you guys are mad at me, you guys could just talk to me. There's no reason to be calling me names, cursing me out and blocking me from skateboarding,' " said Meara. "It's just unnecessary."

One juvenile has been charged with third degree assault, a misdemeanor.

Police tell Action News the investigation is ongoing.
