The indulgence usually leaves you feeling overly stuffed afterwards.

Thanksgiving is one day it's okay to go ahead and indulge, but that indulgence usually leaves you feeling overly stuffed afterwards.

So, here are some tips to help give you relief:

First, take a light walk. The light exercise helps your stomach empty more quickly, relieving that bloated feeling.

Ginger chews are always a way to speed up digestion and decrease gas. Some studies suggest they also desensitize nerves in the stomach, making you feel more comfortable.

Peppermint tea also relaxes stomach muscles, but it does have a downside.

"It may increase the relaxation of the valve that separates the esophagus and stomach, so while you may have decreased stomach discomfort, you may increase your risk of having reflux," said gastroenterologist Dr. Scott Gabbard.

Clear soda and ginger ale can also help.

Of course, portion control can prevent problems in the first place... but on Thanksgiving, many people don't want to hear that advice!
