Truck bursts into flames at Pa. Turnpike toll plaza

LEVITTOWN, Pa. -- A truck burst into flames at a Pennsylvania Turnpike toll plaza on Tuesday morning in Bucks County.

It happened at 9:15 a.m. at the Bristol Interchange - a toll plaza that was decommissioned in January and scheduled for demolition.

A Turnpike spokesperson said the truck hit an attenuator, or 'shock absorber,' positioned in front of the toll plaza.

The impact caused the truck to catch fire, which led to some sort of explosion.

Luckily, the truck driver was not injured. And because the toll plaza is vacant, no Turnpike personnel were inside or in harm's way.

Officials say the truck was carrying electrical supplies and there was nothing hazardous inside.

The view from Chopper 6 showed the fire scene at the entrance to the toll plaza, just before the toll booth.

Westbound traffic was shut down for a time, but one lane is now getting past the scene.
