A suspect is hospitalized in police custody after a traffic stop and brief foot chase in Lower Merion Township.

LOWER MERION, Pa. (WPVI) -- A suspect is hospitalized in police custody after a traffic stop and brief foot chase in Lower Merion Township.

It began at 11:27 p.m. Friday.

Police tell Action News state troopers stopped a U-Haul rental truck in the parking lot of 555 City Avenue, near Joe's Crab Shack.

As the troopers approached the truck, the 33-year-old driver got out and began to run.

Troopers caught up with him and as they were placing him under arrest, police say, the suspect struggled and then lost consciousness.

Medics took the man to Lankenau Hospital.

There was no immediate word on his condition, or what prompted state police to stop the U-Haul.
