Adults, children injured in New Jersey Turnpike crash

A child and an adult were both flown to the hospital.

WESTAMPTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- An accident on the New Jersey Turnpike backed up traffic and resulted in a number of injuries.

The accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. just south of Exit 5 in Westampton, Burlington County.

Police say the driver of an SUV lost control and overturned into a wooded area on the side of the Turnpike.

There were two adults and three children in the vehicle.

A child and an adult were flown to an area hospital.

The other victims were transported by ambulance.

The crash initially shut down both directions of the Turnpike, however the northbound side reopened shortly before 2:00 p.m.

New Jersey State Police are investigating.
