UPPER DARBY, Pa. (WPVI) -- Upper Darby police are getting new vests to protect them in the line of duty.
Superintendent Mike Chitwood unveiled the new active shooter vests Tuesday morning.
He said the officers will wear them on top of their regular bullet-proof vests.
They are are specifically designed to protect the officers in the case of an active shooter, with an extra layer of metal and ceramic to repel rifle rounds.
Each of the department's 133 officers will get one.
