The Philadelphia School District dismissed early Wednesday because of the heat.
Students were more than happy to go, even it meant going outside.
"Everybody was dancing," West Philadelphia High School student Jamilia Wilson said.
Over at the Schuylkill River Park, Travis Johnson wasn't exactly dancing since he was ankle-deep in mulch and dealing with the heat, humidity and the hot sun.
"Pretty insane. It's a little hot out here. It's ridiculously hot; I'm pouring sweat pretty much. Trying to keep it a little easy, but there're a few things we're trying to get done so doing the best we can," Johnson said.
Donna Birmingham of Wilmington worked quickly to set up her farmer's market. She searched for some shade and actually wouldn't mind seeing some rain.
"If it rains today, it'll feel good to us. Last week when it rained, it was soaking, so today it'll feel awful good," Birmingham said.
The summer season doesn't start till Saturday but the dog days of summer temperature-wise are here.
Roxie the dog and her owner Leona Thomsen of Center City spent some time outdoors, but they were just about ready to retreat to the air conditioning inside.
"I've got to be careful and bring her inside, make sure she has enough water. Of course, the air conditioner has to be on, which is nice for me," Thomsen said.
All after-school activities are cancelled for today as well, the Philadelphia School District said.
