Fire kills children, man in Hunting Park

HUNTING PARK - February 9, 2008 Flames engulfed a row home in the 4100 block of North 8th Street. Two children and a man died as a result.

"He was just screaming. My kids, my kids. My kids are back there." Wilfredo Lopez heard the screams around 3:30 a.m. Without hesitation he tried to help the father in need.

Lopez says, "We started grabbing water from the sink. One of the windows exploded and we had to run across the street."

5-year-old Keon Townsend, his 3-year-old brother Sabree, and their grandfather Alexander Townsend died in the burning home. Firefighter got one of the boys out. He was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital where he later died.

2 adults had to be treated for minor injuries.

11 people were living in the home. The Red Cross is providing them with housing and other needs.
