Alleged sex offender faces victim in court

LANSDALE, Pa. - January 30, 2008

Thirty-three-year old Ronald McDade arrived in court wearing a bullet proof vest and surrounded by tight security.

In court, he sat shaking his head as his accuser testified about the night she says McDade raped her. The girl was composed and precise as she testified.

She says she had gone to McDade's house to spend the night with his girlfriend's 13-year-old daughter.

The alleged victim says she and her friend had consumed half a bottle of rum. She was lying on the floor in the hallway when, she says, McDade emerged from his bedroom wearing nothing but a white T-shirt, and then raped her.

Family and supporters wearing hearts on their shirts with her birth date surrounded the girl.

The prosecutor played a tape of a phone call McDade made to his girlfriend from jail. He is heard claiming that the victim enticed him.

Many remain angry that, at the time of the alleged rape, McDade was free on bail facing charges of trying to lure another girl into his car.

Despite the compelling testimony in court and McDade's own words, his lawyer says this case is not quite as clear cut as it seems.

It was clear enough for the judge. He ordered McDade to be held for trial on multiple sexual assault charges, including two counts of rape.
