First Assistant District Attorney Kevin Steele says Cossey was sentenced in May to 9 to 23 months of house arrest, electronic monitoring and random drug testing for firearms violations.
Cossey had attempted to buy a .22-caliber rifle for his son three years ago without indicating he had a prior felony conviction. He spent six years in jail for a manslaughter charge in Oklahoma in the 1980s.
The boy's mother, Michele Cossey, is awaiting trial on charges of buying firearms for her son.
