Would you pay for six?

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) - February 17, 2008 Frank Vassallo IV says he bought the low-digit license plate, a status symbol in Delaware, for his grandfather, Anthony Fusco, owner of Fusco Management.

Auctioneer Butch Emmert of Emmert Auction Associates in Rehoboth Beach says it is the lowest-digit active Delaware license plate ever auctioned at a public sale. He says tag No. 9 sold 14 years ago for $186,500.

Delaware's motor vehicle laws allow registration numbers and tags to be transferred between cars and owners. Family members pass them along in wills, and there are Web sites that broker their sale.

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 are reserved for the governor, lieutenant governor and secretary of state.
