Detroit mayor's former chief of staff arraigned
DETROIT (AP) - March 25, 2008 Former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty appeared Tuesday
afternoon in a downtown courtroom. A not guilty plea was entered on
her behalf on charges of perjury, conspiracy, obstruction of
justice and misconduct in office.
Beatty and Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick are accused of lying
under oath about an affair and their roles in the firing of a top
police official.
Kilpatrick is expected to be arraigned shortly.
Attorneys for Kilpatrick and Beatty say their clients will be
exonerated.
