Vandals delay school in Pennsauken

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - March 26, 2008 It seems some teenagers were up to good in the overnight hours here in Pennsauken.

Investigators say, last night, several high school students scaled the fence surrounding the school bus yard and pulled the cores from the valve stems of tires on at least 35 buses.

Then they spray-painted "seniors '08" on the vehicles.

"I don't even know how to express it, but it was awful," Queen Roberts, a bus driver, said.

Maintenance crews ended up spending the entire morning repairing dozens of flat tires.

The result was a whole lot of late pick-ups at bus stops.

A few routes were even cancelled this morning.

Pennsauken students just returned from Easter break yesterday.

"It certainly puts a kink in the operations and gets everybody running in a lot of different directions," Pat Yacovelli of the Pennsauken School District said.

The teenagers involved couldn't help but tell their peers about their escapades. A little bragging and a bit of text messaging quickly led police to the culprits.
