Dogs attack sheep, owner shoots back

MARLBORO, N.J. (AP) - April 14, 2008

The county's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says Mark Maurer heard a baby lamb bleating at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

Maurer saw two dogs attacking his flock of sheep, killing the lamb and injuring two other adult sheep.

Maurer took a 12-gauge shotgun and killed one of the dogs, wounding the other.

The owners of the two shepherd mix dogs, who live about a mile away from Maurer, have been issued summons for letting the animals run loose.

Albert Adams, one of the dogs' owners, said he planned to tell Maurer he was sorry, and offer to pay for the damages.
