Analysis says Slots Hurt Pa. Lottery Sales Near Casinos

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - June 11, 2008 While the lottery reported a slight statewide sales increase from 2006 to 2007, the analysis pointed out that sales dropped in five of six counties that are homes to casinos.

Overall, the report from the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee says slots gambling is not having a significant effect on lottery sales statewide.

It cited other factors, such as a slumping economy, as also contributing to a slowdown in sales after several years of big increases statewide.
